Giving Back with a Service

I read somewhere that April 1st was considered the New Year on some calendars, the term April Fools coming from the individuals who didn’t know the New Year had changed to January 1. I certainly can relate to that. April 1 has always felt more like a renewal than January had ever been. And I look forward to what will come in the New Year.

As a small business owner, I’ve always made it a goal to not only thrive financially but also to make a positive impact on my community. For the month of April, Breeze Bodywork is thrilled to raise funds for the 15th Annual Doin’ it for David Poker Run.

At the end of April, I will be traveling to Philadelphia for a 55-hour intensive training on manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). This technique is highly needed in our area, especially for those suffering from cancer.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized bodywork technique that helps to stimulate lymphatic flow, which plays a crucial role in the body's immune system. By gently stimulating lymphatic flow, MLD can help reduce inflammation, promote detoxification, and improve circulation, benefiting individuals with conditions such as chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and digestive issues Its gentle, rhythmic movements can provide relief from discomfort, promote relaxation, and enhance the body's natural healing processes.

MLD can be beneficial for athletes and active individuals looking to enhance recovery, improve performance, and prevent injury. By reducing muscle soreness, promoting tissue repair, relieving pressure in the joints, and reducing swelling, MLD can support overall physical well-being and optimize muscle recovery. This technique can improve symptoms of allergies by reducing fluid build up, help with a youthful appearance by reducing puffiness in the face, and even aid in the reduction of chronic pain. MLD is known to alleviate symptoms associated with conditions like fibromyalgia, lymphedema, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

For cancer patients, MLD can be incredibly beneficial in managing symptoms such as lymphedema, a common side effect of cancer treatment. Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system is removed, damaged, or blocked, leading to fluid buildup and swelling in the arms, legs, or other parts of the body. This swelling can be painful and debilitating, making it difficult for patients to carry out daily activities.

By offering manual lymphatic drainage services at Breeze Bodywork, we are providing much-needed support to individuals in our community. Not only can MLD help to reduce swelling and discomfort, but it can also improve overall quality of life for anyone. MLD is especially important for those suffering from complications after surgery. In many cases, cancer patients must have lymphatic nodes removed. The body will need to work to re-route lymphatic material to other nodes within the body, but lymphedema is a common side effect, and is almost guaranteed in some instances.

The upcoming availability of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) service at Breeze Bodywork has served as a catalyst for our commitment to giving back to the community. Recognizing the immense need for this specialized therapy, particularly among cancer patients, has been an inspiration to not only offer this service but also to create a dedicated fund to support individuals who may not have access to such essential care. This initiative embodies the belief in the transformative power of natural wellness and underscores our mission to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those facing health challenges.

The Doin' It for David Poker Run holds a special place in the heart of this community. This event brings people together to raise funds for childhood cancer research and support services. By participating in this event, we are contributing to a cause that is making a real difference in the lives of families battling cancer. Together, we can help to reach David’s dream, that no one has to see someone leave this world before they’ve had the chance to grow old.

The decision to donate $5 of each sale and all gratuities to the upcoming poker run is an easy one. The Formicas, a family Bre has known since grade school, tragically lost David to cancer in 2006 at the age of 15. Since 2003, Their family has helped to raise over $368,000 to help fund blood cancer research. We have seen firsthand the impact that losing a loved one to cancer can have on a family. By supporting the Doin' It for David Poker Run, we are not only honoring David's memory but also supporting his family and others affected by childhood cancer.

Supporting the Doin' It for David Poker Run and offering manual lymphatic drainage services are just two ways that we are giving back to our community and supporting those affected by cancer. We believe that by coming together and supporting one another, we can make a real difference in the fight against cancer.
